Delivering for Wolt

Delivering for Wolt

When I decided to become a Wolt courier just before Christmas, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Running a physical toy store and online business, Bamsedyra, has kept me busy, but I needed a little extra income during the quieter months in the town center. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d enjoy the experience—especially on my trusty fatbike.

Winter cycling might sound intimidating to some, but it’s been nothing short of fantastic. My fatbike, with its thick tires and powerful motor, handles snow and icy streets with ease. Whether I’m picking up an order from McDonald’s, Fauno, or Foodiez, getting around Gjøvik has been simple and fun.

What I love most about being a Wolt courier is the flexibility. I can choose the deliveries I want to take, depending on the distance and my schedule. Most of my routes are right in the city center, making it manageable and enjoyable. Plus, it feels great to know I’m reducing my reliance on a car.

A Paid Workout

For me, cycling isn’t just about delivering food; it’s a workout I get paid for. After spending much of my time indoors managing the store, being outside and active feels refreshing. It’s also a way to connect with Gjøvik in a new way—seeing the town from the saddle of my bike has been a joy.

Yes, most couriers I’ve seen use cars, but I think cycling is the way forward. It’s not only efficient for short deliveries but also an excellent way to stay active. I’ve even seen a few other cycling couriers out there, and it’s great to know I’m not the only one enjoying the snowy streets on two wheels.

A Better Way to Get Outside

As an Englishman in Norway, I’ve come to appreciate the winter, even if my skiing skills are still a work in progress. Cycling has become my way of embracing the season. There’s something special about riding through fresh snow with crisp air all around.

If you’ve ever thought about trying a fatbike, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a fantastic alternative to driving, especially in winter. For anyone considering becoming a courier or just looking for a way to spend more time outside, give it a go. You might find, like I have, that it’s not just work—it’s a way to enjoy life.
